Rainy Days in Amsterdam. What To Do?

Amsterdam is a popular destination for city trips. It’s famous for many things (Cannabis Coffeeshops, Red Light District & more), but no for the great weather. Especially during the winter there’s a big chance that it’s cold and rainy. But don’t worry! We made a list of great indoor activities in Amsterdam that you can do on a rainy day.

The Museumplein

The Museumplein is the perfect place to go to on a rainy day. There are many museums close to each other. You can visit the Rijksmuseum for example and take a look at ‘The Night Watch’ by the famous painter: Rembrandt. The place is huge and they have a lot of great pieces of art. Other museums at the Museumplein are the Stedelijk, the Van Gogh or the MOCO Museum. Be smart and purchase your tickets on time. Nobody likes waiting in line when it rains..

The Foodhallen

This place will give you a real ‘ indoor food market’ feeling like the Torvehallerne in Copenhagen, the Mercado de San Miguel in Madrid or the Borough Market in London. This industrial building has many stands with all kinds of food and drinks. Just buy something that you like and eat it immediately. Prefer to take a moment and sit down? At the end of the building you can have a drink or dinner at The Kanarieclub

Heineken experience

Some people only like beer when it’s hot outside, but real fans like it anytime of the year. In Holland we like to drink Heineken (Mainly because it’s a dutch product and we’re proud of it). At the Heineken experience you’ll get to learn how they make the drink. You can have a tour in the former brewery and learn about the history of the Heineken family and also the process of making the world famous drink. The best part of the tour is the ending when you can try one!

Shop indoors

The Magna Plaza is an indoor shopping centre located in a historical building behind the Royal Palace. You can find all kinds of stores under the same roof. Most of them are clothing stores, but they have also places to buy some Dutch cheese, jewelry, souvenirs and candles. They also have a place to get a drink, it’s called: Ovidius. You’ll find it at the corner of the Magna Plaza.
